MME Group and Van Oord have signed a contract to provide cathodic protection for the Norther offshore windfarm in Belgium.
Under the contract, MME Group will engineer, supply and commission internal and external impressed current cathodic protection (ICCP) systems for the 44 monopile foundations and the offshore high voltage substation.
Pieter Moerland, general manager of MME Group’s cathodic protection division, said: “After successful delivery and operation of our ICCP systems on the Bard Offshore 1 and Gemini offshore windfarms in Germany and the Netherlands we are delighted to have won the contract for Norther. With more than 10 European offshore windfarms protected by our systems, this deal is a clear demonstration our customer-oriented solutions are paying off.”
Norther is being built in Belgium’s exclusive economic zone approximately 23km from the Belgian port of Zeebrugge. The concession was granted at the end of 2009. Van Oord is the main contractor for engineering, procurement, supply and installation of the foundations, the substation and the inter-array and export cables.
