Siem Offshore Contractors (SOC) has selected JDR Cable Systems to provide termination and testing services for the inter array cable system of the 588 megawatt (MW) Beatrice offshore windfarm. JDR is already responsible for the design, manufacture and supply of the inter array cables for Beatrice, after being awarded the contract by SOC last year.
More than half of the submarine composite cables produced have successfully passed factory acceptance tests and await load-out for installation by SOC later this year.
The Beatrice offshore windfarm is located approximately 13 km off the Caithness coast in the Outer Moray Firth. It will comprise 84 7MW turbines and two offshore transformer modules, which will be inter-connected by 91 33kV medium voltage alternating current submarine composite cables with a total length of 164km.
The £2.6 billion (US$3.4 billion) project reached financial close in May 2016 and is owned by SSE (40 per cent), Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (35 per cent) and Red Rock Power Limited (25 per cent).
