Danes opt for German turbines for Dominion demo
Two Siemens Gamesa 6 MW SWT-6.0-154 turbines will be installed at the Dominion demonstration site offshore Virginia

Ørsted is to develop Dominion Energy’s Coastal Virginia offshore wind project using Siemens Gamesa turbines.

Ørsted will build the project using two of Siemens Gamesa’s 6 MW SWT-6.0-154 turbines.

The Siemens Gamesa blades for the project will be produced at the company’s manufacturing facility in Aalborg, Denmark. The nacelle assemblies will originate from the Siemens Gamesa facility in Cuxhaven, Germany.

Once in Virginia, the components will be installed by Ørsted on monopile foundations. Deliveries are expected to begin in mid-2020.

The Coastal Virginia project is a two-turbine demonstration project owned by Dominion Energy. It will be built in a research lease area adjacent to a 112,700-acre lease area held by Dominion approximately 27 miles off the Atlantic coast of Virginia. The lease area has a potential wind energy capacity of at least 2 GW.
