The National Institute of Wind Energy in India has invited expressions of interest for development of a 1 GW offshore windfarm off the coast of Gujarat.
Preliminary studies indicate good potential for offshore wind power on the southern tip of the Indian peninsula and west coast.
Expressions of interest are being sought from developers with experience of installing offshore wind projects of more than 500 MW and from Indian onshore wind manufacturers/developers having installed 500 MW of onshore wind power projects in India who collaborate with global offshore wind turbine OEMs.
The deadline for expressions of interest is 25 May 2018.
A report published late last year by the Facilitating Offshore Wind in India consortium suggested the Indian states of Gujarat and Tamil Nadu could build significant offshore wind energy capacity in the next decade.
