Shipping JV to play key role at Taiwanese training centre
POSH Kerry Renewables is a JV between POSH Holdings and Kerry TJ Logistics

A newly-formed joint venture that aims to support Taiwan’s growing offshore wind energy industry is to provide training for operators of vessels with dynamic positioning.

POSH Kerry Renewables has been invited to partner with the Metal Industries Research & Development Centre (MIRDC) in Taiwan to train local personnel.

The training will take place at Taiwan’s first specialised maritime training centre.

The company recently signed a memorandum of understanding with MIRDC, an agency under the umbrella of Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs, to work with Maersk Training and DNV GL to develop a range of training courses.

The maritime training centre is scheduled for completion in 2020 and will be built in the vicinity of Shin Da Harbour in Kaohsiung.

POSH Kerry managing director Kelvin Teo said, “Sharing our expertise and providing on-the-job training on our large fleet of DP offshore vessels, POSH Kerry will do its part in cultivating a pipeline of local talent who can anchor the government’s plans to advance its offshore renewable energy and marine industries.”

The company will provide trainers for courses and offer attachment opportunities for trainees to serve as DP operators on DP vessels.

POSH Holdings and Taiwan-based logistics firm Kerry TJ Logistics announced plans to incorporate a joint venture company to provide solutions for offshore windfarm developers, EPCI contractors and wind turbine manufacturers in July 2018.

Leveraging the capabilities and assets of both companies, POSH Kerry Renewables aims to provide a comprehensive portfolio including the end-to-end transportation of wind turbines and components and diversified marine solutions during the installation, operations and maintenance of offshore windfarms in Taiwan.

With an established track record for executing offshore energy projects, POSH brings specialised offshore marine expertise and a modern fleet of vessels. Listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange, Kerry TJ is Taiwan’s largest logistics provider.
